I have a set which I built up over years and then bought an empty box to put them in, when I break or lose one I replace it with one from homebase, they sell their own range of drills, HSS, nothing flash but they are very good.
Obviously i'm just an occasional user though.

The rules aren't that difficult to comply with, you don't currently need an MSA spec cage, in fact you don't currently need a cage, however, if you intend to fit one then it doesn't make sense not to make it to MSA spec.
The most difficult part of getting ready to compete is finding a co-driver who can stay focused and fast all day and who you still want to talk to at the end.
If Corwen is reasonably local to you then pop allong and see what it's all about, you'll see people upside down and everything!

i've got a video of you "tight rope walking" across that gulley
Cool! Thank god someone will share their film, the number of photos and videos must be enormous, sadly we only ever see the odd one.
It's a shame videos and photos never really show how steep a slope that gully was on.

I had a great weekend, sometimes thats just how it goes!
Thanks of course to Neil and the (small) team who laid out this time, it was harsh but technical too, which is what I enjoy. B)
Thanks especially to Bruce, Andy and all the others who helped me to complete the last stage and get recovered from the hillside.
The failure appears, at first inspection, to have been caused by the lock nut being loose on the central joint which caused the screw thread to come unscrewed. This in turn appears to have allowed it to bend and eventually fatigue over the course of the day.
I'm sure there will be a further report of the charnage. Worst of all from my point of view is that one of the airshocks is a write off.
Still, i've got four weeks to fix it.

Contact pugwash, he has had good results with bed liner recently.

It definately increases the value of his car...........
.......the scrap value.

No useful purpose except, and this is only my belief, it allows the factory to machine the body mounts level and then drill the holes on a jig after the chassis is made.
Now thats enough with the silly questions.

Dirtydiesel has done his bit and collected the rims, thanks Dan.
Will, i'll be on to you when they arrive in the south.

Not very local but where we travel from Horsham.
Well run and marshaled sites with guidance for beginners if you ask.

Wow! Great response guys, thanks.
DD, your offer looks favourite, I will place my bids accordingly.
Thanks again for the offers.

I'm looking at a set of steel wheel rims on ebay but they are collection only from Alfreton in Derbyshire. I will only bid on them if someone can help with transport, either to a Howlin Wolf round or Sussex, Surrey, Wiltshire or Somerset.
Any help greatly appreciated.

If you don't want the bearing then grind through the shell.

We had a great day, thanks to Neil, Carol and all who set up and took down. Thanks most of all to James who went home torn to pieces by the merciless hawthorn which grows on the site.
So come on, whos got all the photos then?

I seperated the chassis and cage for painting, I really appreciate the use of a forklift!
Painted seperately then welded back together permanently.
Then add some inner wing panels.
-
I started with the hoop, one continuous piece of CDS of course.
Frame taking shape with bonnet placed for effect.
The complete frame with tunnel, needs rear bulkhead next.

if it goes as well as the old one they are in for a good season.
If it goes at all at the moment.

I've been working late into the night so I haven't had time to upload pictures so here are a selection from the last couple of days.
Cleaning the old brackets off the axles.
Rear axle and winch mount.
If in doubt get an expert to help! Positioning the Vitara bulkhead on the chassis to get a good seating position.

I started off this morning with chassis rails constructed from 100x50 box section, I have added tubular turrets at the front to mount the shocks on and to give me a point to work back from.
I positioned the engine and gearbox between the rails and chocked the SJ transfer box with blocks of wood prior to final mounting.
The front winch mount is also the front cross member, I bent 48mm 3mm wall 316 stainless tube, thus removing the need for a separate fairlead.
The front winch in position in close proximity to the steering box etc. but keeping the front approach as short as possible. Mocked up with a Rover front axle case to make sure it misses the sump.
The whole assembly is screwed to a pallet in order that I can use the forklift to shift it about, tomorrow I will strip axle cases and look at mounting them etc.
I'm tired now!

Just keep Will Warne away you'll be laughing:)
It's OK, I don't think Will speaks Japanese!

Very interesting. It looks like you are going for the cut vitara transfer box + SJ transfer box for double low gearing. With that autobox, it looks like it will be a very long engine/tranny combination. What sort of wheelbase will you be aiming for?
Regards,
Diff
Oooh, you don't miss much do you.
I am indeed intending to use an SJ transfer box so have cut the front output off the transfer box. I am aiming for 100" wheelbase and yes, the combination is long but the rear prop will only just be shorter than a standard SWB series.
