All these people saying they're in is making me look forward to it!

Night section is a good idea, well done, makes my trip all the way to Kirton worth while! I will, however, have to bleat about the cost/dark of a night section at Slindon because it's my local.

As usual they have done nothing but damage for the image of all offroading. Great for the manufacturers but very bad for us.

Just thought i'd add a reminder to vote before the end of December.
-
X-Eng for an anchor, Goodwinch for a B2 and plasma. Give David Bowyer a call for advise re. rope dia. and length.
-
Not you then Nobby, sorry.
-
I found a bit of kit in my truck which we found on a punch at round 8. If it's yours you will be able to describe it. I put it behind the seat and forgot all about it. I can take it to the AGM if required.
-
I gather that the truck which won class 2 in Howlin Wolf this year uses a TDS from Goodwinch on the rear. They also just won Santas Muddy Challenge with the same TDS now sporting a Bowmotor 2.
So, competition proven reliability.

I hope there'll be some photos along soon, there were cameras everywhere.

Can we see the Van you have created Nick?
Not until the sign writing is gone! Anyway, it's not really a LR.

From this document http://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/pdfs/uk-breakdown-cover-policy-feb-2009.pdf Page 8
Vehicle specifications
Breakdown assistance is only available for cars, vans, minibuses or motorcycles which meet the specifications set out below.
Please note that “car, van, minibus or motorcycle” does not include, amongst other things, electric pavement vehicles, electrical wheelchairs, bicycles (including electric bicycles), any vehicle which cannot lawfully be used on the public highway and/or any non-motorised vehicle.
Maximum Vehicle Weight: 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg) gross vehicle weight
Maximum Vehicle Width: 7ft 6in (2.3m)
Assistance will also be provided for a caravan or trailer which was on tow at the time of the breakdown, provided that it falls within the above limits.
no mention of vehicle overall length.
I was as sceptical as anyone but this is what the girl on the phone told me.
-
Just a foot note to let you know that I spoke to the AA. The standard cover will recover a 3.5 ton van as long as it is less than 2.3m wide, there appears to be no limit on length.
Result really as my wife and I have joint membership to AA already.
-
worth checking with your insurance as it may be included with your policy or an option, i have found this a few times with commercial insurance ive had on LWB Transits etc...
also i think the AA/RAC only charge a small amount more to cover vans on top of there normal policy's
Thanks for that, I will ask AA tomorrow, Green Flag and RAC both limit to 5.5m
-
I have a 3500kg van which is long enough to carry my car, i'm having trouble finding an affordable breakdown/recovery company that will cover a van as long as mine (over 5.5m).
Any suggestions?

You'll have to wait for someone to come along with next years definitive reply but for the year just finished harnesses (for AWDC challenge events) had to be 4 point, mounted to 4 seperate points on the vehicle.
-
Sorry, just looked at pics again and it might have a silly knob. Mine doesn't.
-
This is like the one I use, been brilliant, dropped, thrown, drowned and still comes back for more. No bells or whistles and crucially no knob to get broken off the outside or caught on stuff in confined spaces.
By the way, the price is right, definately didn't cost £300!
Worth noting that this ad is nothing to do with me.

I enjoy the night before but to get a group to congregate you need a focal point, a bonfire works but I know that carries it's own problems. Perhaps a marquee type thing to contain BBQ or hog roast.

Don't RR steering boxes leak like all the others then?
There's always one!
-
It seems that the web site isn't quite ready to accept votes but i'm sure there's a team of crack programmers working on it.
If you take a Range Rover and replace the unreliable bits with reliable Japanese bits then you end up with something like mine.
It still has a RR steering box and prop shafts.

As of today voting is open for the nominations for the All Wheel Drive Clubs "Truck of the year".
Anyone can register as a member on the clubs web site to vote.
There's a very fine, class winning truck entered, amongst others.

It is fair to say that you want a good weld on the rings, but, if you turn the power up to full and the wire down to a point just before the crackling becomes a buzz you will get the hottest weld with best penetration. You will find that the spatter will be much more sticky but it is the best way to get close to the quoted thickness. Changing to ar co2 mix will allow you to get a hotter weld without so much mess.
Make sure you get a good weld on the inside of the bumper and you'll be fine.

It may be that I misunderstand, going by the tone of indignation, but it was my belief that the AWDC Challenger series seeded entrants by allowing a percentage score per punch.
I may be wrong, I may not understand. I have heard some grumbling about the system, however it is arranged.

Assistance in tight turns, James will tell you about the time we lose in my 18 point turns.
