  1. Will do. Just found out that my local dealer is closed till the 5th! Will just have to wait till then.
  2. Yep, have that on my list. Will also be changing my water pump and the p gasket whilst I'm at it as it appears to have a leak. Is there another part round there that can leak coolant? It just seems that there is a lot of fluid for just the p gasket.
  3. Take it you mean Top and Bottom hoses? Thought about that. Jubilee clips weren't on my list though. Many thanks. Typsey
  4. Just went on a trip to Scotland and back and before we set off I had a good look over the old girl. Apart from servicing the usual parts I noticed that the core of her radiator is starting to lose some of the cooling fins. I didn't have time to change it before we set off but as I am sat idly watching reruns of Top Gear and Sharpe I thought I had better give it a go. She's a 300Tdi M Reg 3 Door. If I replace the radiator should I also replace the hoses? Are there any parts other than the radiator to order at the same time? Wouldn't want to find that out once it's all out! Many thanks, Typsey

The rest of the car is not that bad. Boot floor in good order as are sills and inner wings.

    RUST!

My disco (M Reg 300TDi 3 Door) has rust under the apline lights. I'm starting to make a note of any items that need attention on the old girl with a view to trying to keep her on the road for as long as possible. I came across this problem a couple of months ago but was too busy to do anything about it. I need to now tackle the problem and am unsure where to start. If they have rusted beyond being suitable for sanding down and painting with Kurust or some other product, what can I do instead? Your help will be greatly appreciated as I really want to keep this one on the road for as long as possible. She's only got 161k on her and I want to hit at least 200k before she gets scrapped. Many thanks. Typsey
  7. Changed rear doors over after wife manage to dent the last one against an inconvenient concrete upright The rear demister doesn't seem to work on this one. Can't see any problems with the wiring or the actual copper elements. Is there any chance that I have just forgot to do something simple or have blown the fuse? Hoping it is not the elements being damaged! Typsey
  8. Just spent the past couple of days sorting the suspension out. Learnt a lot of new tricks along the way. Thanks for your help and guidance and I now look forward to being able to pass my new found knowledge of suspension onto to others. Typsey
  9. Chaps. Hoofing! A quick two minute job for later on then. Cannot believe that these kits are sent out without fitting instructions. Also spent some time searching online to no avail. Many thanks. Typsey
  10. Hey guys and girls. Have just returned from a sandy place far and away and decided to treat my Disco to new springs and shocks alround and new boots. I chose the Britpart pack of Heavy duty springs and shocks. With the help of my soon-to-be brother-in-law, we have just fitted the rear set. However, I am not sure we have correctly fitted the shocks. Unfortunately, with no instructions and only the standard set up to go by we may have not correctly used the appropriate washer/bush combo. I don't supppose anyone knows of a link to a guide or could take a picture of their kit so that I can walk away from this job with a warm and fuzzy feeling? Many thanks. Typsey
  11. Thanks for that guys. Thought it would be far too easy if they were the same! I will keep on looking!
  12. Are the 200 and 300 TDi sun visors interchangeable? Need a passenger sun visor and have been offered one from a 200 TDi Disco so need to find out asap. Also, are there any other makes and model of car that have the same model sun visor? Cheers guys. Typsey
  13. Yeah, think my original post is confusing people, sorry. It is not the swivel seal, it is the rear offside hub seal that is leaking.
  14. Oh, can one change the seal without changing the wheel bearings?
  15. Good point about swivel! The leak seems to be coming from the area of the seal. Will have a look at the breather.
  16. As the title suggests, had the nearside rear wheel bearing replaced a couple of days ago, and it has sat idle since then. Went to get in today and noticed an oil leak in the offside rear swivel. Is this related do you think? Going back to the garage, but want any ideas you have before I go to them. Thanks
  17. Thanks Bogmonster and the rest of you guys. Will bear that little trick in mind for next time.
  18. Just had the wheel off and looked around. Lots of mud and play in the wheel when rocked at 12 and 6 position. Off to order wheel bearings!
  19. Do wheel bearings normally squeel? I have just replaced a wheel bearing in the front nearside wheel and these made a different noise. Admittedly, it is the only reference I have with wheel bearings and they can make other noises.
  20. Just got back from journey to the local DIY specialist and for the last 2 miles of my journey, the front offside wheel was making a high pitched squeeling noise. When I stopped at home, I checked the disc and it was very hot to touch. I had the brake pads replaced back in January and since then the discs have had a very clean appearance as if they are under braking strain all the time. This noise has not been present before. Any ideas?

    HELP!

Hi guys, thanks for all the information. Took the starter motor apart again today and jiggled around with it all until the cog could be thrown forward enough. Put it back together and at all works. Only problem was.............after I put it all together I realised that I had not replaced the metal sheild inside the starter motor, so it all had to come out again! Barsteward! Anyway back together again and working now so alls good in love and land rovers!

    HELP!

No, engine isn't turning at all, just the starter motor. Will dig around in it today and see what I come up with. Thanks.

    HELP!

Okay, here's an update for you. Had the recovery guy out earlier and we tow-started it. We also tried starting it from his battery to check whether the alternator is duff. I took the starter motor off (you have to remove the inlet manifold unless you have hands of a child or patience of a saint) and gave it a good clean out, dried it out, put some grease in the cogs and bearings then put it back on. I now have the starter motor spinning, but that's it. It does not start the engine. Does this mean the starter motor is okay and that something else if wrong?
