    HELP!

Saw your article on the Spider but mine is a 95 300 Tdi and your article says 96 and above. Have tried knocking it with a hammer but no joy. Haven't got a volt meter so can't check the voltage. Thanks for the advice. Will get back to you when I have any news.

    HELP!

Need help guys and gals, went offroading yesterday then parked her up at home for a couple of hours before taking her to the jet wash. When I went to take her, she wouldn't start. Electrics all seem fine, but when I turn her over it just clicks. Any ideas and how to fix it? Typsey.
  3. Okay, here goes. After some playing around yesterday having a go at jigging the bearings around and having a general mess, I change my wheel bearings today. With the help of Mark from Hull 4x4 club I took out the old wheel bearings and replaced them. The inner one seemed to have rusted up slightly and I think that this was caused by the drive member not having a gasket on. These were replaced and filled with grease. Would like to point out my idiot moment where I was trying to undo the brake caliper mounting bolts the wrong way and managed to shatter a socket and bend a wrench. Oooops! Thanks for the advice guys. Typsey
  4. Will have a look tomorrow again.
  5. Thanks for that. Will be ringing later on today for parts with the intention of scraping my knuckles tomorrow!
  6. It's actually the front near-side that's gone. How long does this job actually take then?
  7. Thanks for the info. Anyone in Hull area want to help me? Beers available.
  8. That's right, following a trip to Langdale Quest my baby has developed a nasty vibration sound, like something rubbing from the near-side wheel. Think that it's a wheel bearing and would like to know how easy these are to replace and whether anyone knows of an online write up that I could follow. Trying to do more work on the Disco myself in order to feel manly, just don't know where to start! Thanks, Typsey
  9. Mission accomplished, only one scraped knuckle! Didn't have anyone to help so had to fiddle around a bit with the tensioner and the belt, but managed it okay. Thanks for the advice and reassurance! Typsey
  10. Just about to change the little beauty for the first time, and would like to know if there is a knack to it, any secret ways of doing it or is it as straight forward as it seems? Typsey
  11. I am going again tomorrow, problem is, I don't have a digital camera at the moment as I lost it in France on a recent snowboarding trip. I will ask when I am there if they are still running the Xtreme Trail sessions.
  12. Went to Langdale Quest yesterday in the snow (about 3cm's !). It was the first time I have been in the Disco 300Tdi and it handled great without any mods. Will be looking at protection for diffs and steering/sump before I go again. Can't wait.

    MPG loss

Will check this out ASAP with local dealer. Thanks a lot
  14. Am going to replace my 300 Tdi exhaust system as it has become a bit sieve-like. Any suggestions as what I should replace it with? Original part or some after market option? Thanks.

    MPG loss

Just before I headed up into Scotland, I saw a small drip coming off the gear box, whilst I was down there changing the oil. At first I thought the worst, but the next day when I had some time to investigate, I noticed the smell of diesel. I checked over the whole system, but didn't notice any obvious leaks. Started the engine up, then looked again, and saw small bubbles coming out of the injector leak off pipes. Straight round to Halfrauds (my independent dealer shuts at 2pm on a Sunday) and to my supprise they actually hard some replacement hose which didn't cost the earth! A bit annoying really as I did just have it in for service and they couldn't find the problem! MPG back up to 30+ which is lovely! Happy days.
  16. Normally fly myself, but wanted to give the whole driving bit a go as will be doing the odd trip out there camping etc in the summer. Plus wanted to drive around in proper snow!
  17. Thanks a lot for that Jim. Sound advice. I have worked a couple of times in Norway at winter learning to ski, but have never driven around there. Am toying with the idea that I might take a small gerry can of diesel with me just in case. Should be getting there around 3 or 4 in the evening and will fill up well before that, but also heard that the fuel stations close early. Think I have the kit for it, but may well invest in the spare rubber foot mat for putting the snow chains on. Thanks for the advicel. Marten
  18. I have a 300 Tdi 3 door 95 Disco and can say that it is not gutless, though I do not have all the add ons that you are looking at on it. I also prefer to keep away from petrol engines for off roading. Just my preference. Typsey
  19. Have snow chains and will be putting the on a couple of times before I go. Pics will be a must as I will driving around a little bit
  20. I am driving out to the French Alpes for some snowboarding. I am taking my 300 Tdi Disco and will have me plus 4 passengers. Do you have any tips for a relative novice when it comes to trips of this sort. For information, it was -19 C on Friday there. Typsey

    MPG loss

Temp problem now appears sorted. The mpg loss had already started well before the water pump failed. There was a little bit of diesel (i think) apparent of the road yesterday morning after a night of being parked up.
  22. Coupled with the problems I have had recently with the landy(cooling), she has been returning aroudn 27 mpg which is around 10% less than normal. This has been going on for some time now but I haven't noticed any difference in engine noise, roughness or pulling power. She seems to be driving fine, but, the fuel lines from pump to injectors are smelling quite a lot of diesel. Cannot remember if this has always been the case, but she's in for servicing on Thursday and was wondering if there is a modified line kit available or if I should just have the LR ones replaced with like? Any ideas?
  23. My garage replaced the water pump for free. Does appear to be working like it used to before the problem. However, it seems to be still making a lot of noise from the belt. If I have it changed do you think it will sort it out? Any quick fixes?
  24. Pretty certain it's the water pump. The belt squeeled anyway, but the noise always came from an area just near the tensioner. This time it is coming from the waterpump.
  25. After the mess around with the fuel system, I now have another problem. About 6 months ago I had the P Gasket changed because I noticed a leak there. At the same time I had the Water Pump, Thermostat, and coolant changed. Yesterday after noticing an unusual sound (above the normal squeeling from the fan belt) I had a look under the bonnet and saw that the P Gasket again appears to be leaking and there is a terrible noise coming from the Water Pump. Whilst I have been driving it, I have noticed that the temp guage now sits slightly higher than it had been previously. What do you think may be causing the failure of the P Gasket? Could the Water Pump be knackered? Do I have any recourse against the garage that did the work? Thanks Typsey
