  1. They have just today entered into Russia, the Panda is giving a few little problems, firstly Matt had to remove a prop after the transmission became noisy, which solved the problem but now they are back to 2WD, also the brake pads needed changing, and they have had a couple of flat tyres.

They are glad to be out of the Ukraine as apparently the Police have been a nightmare stopping everyone , Matt was stopped for 'speeding' and given an on the spot fine of $50.

  2. Sorry for the OT post , but as some of you already know one of our forum members, Matt (Snailracer) is taking part in the Mongol Rally , and I just thought you may be interested in an update.

They are driving a Fiat Panda (kindly donated by Paul W) and after leaving Hyde Park on Saturday afternoon have fairly flown through Europe and are currently in the Ukraine and should shortly be into Russia.

I will update as much as possible, but i am currently only in touch via text messages.

  3. FWIW. There's a fitting an X-Brake to a Defender feature coming up in next months LRW.

    Kev

Perhaps I'd better buy that, it might give me the impetus to fit the X-Brake that's been sitting on my stairs and tripping me up for the last three months :)

  4. That's a funny thread - bit long though

This made me spit tea all over the keyboard.

  5. Taxed my TD5 this morning as well and saved twenty quid :D

Silly system again though - The 101 which does around 10  (on a good day !) to the gallon will now be twenty pounds cheaper to Tax than the 90 which does about 25

The only obvious way to stop people using ' gas guzzlers' would be to do away with Tax discs altogether and put the Tax on fuel - then those who use the most pay the most - but the Road Transport Lobby is far too strong for the Government.

  6. Si, I know you were pretty resigned to them doing this when we were talking in Wales, but sorry to hear they've gone and done it.

Personally I've spoken to Mr Scapiron twice at the shows and both times thought he was arrogant and rude and I also will definately now not buy anything from them.

This also shows what a sh*tty attitude the mags have - surely they should be promoting the smaller (more innovative) companies to encourage them to bring more products to the market, which would benefit us all.

But I guess money talks, perhaps you could tell us which mag it was (LRO?) so we could write to them and tell them their attitude stinks as well.

Edited to add : I meant which mag was going to do the review ?

  7. Late Notice but if anyone wants a room (single ensuite ) ring the farm now, as there is one free.

Unfortunately I will now not be coming as my 90 has just been taken away on the back of a low loader, with a recurrance of an electrical problem which the dealer was supposed to have repaired when they had the vehicle for Five weeks over Xmas

I would bring the 101 but it would probably bankrupt me :(

    Cheers (very unhappy) Mark

By the way the 90 is on it's way to a different Dealer.

Si & Si you should both have PM's

  8. Mark the flexible MDF I was talking about already has grooves cut on the rear and bends easily and you wouldn't have needed going to all the effort of building that jig

As I said only a couple of quid for a small sheet in B&Q

  9. Mark flexi MDF will definately give you a tight enough curve, I made some circular speaker boxes for my last 90 that were about 5-6" diameter .The outside edge of flexi MDF is smooth and at only a couple of quid for a small sheet in B&Q might be worth a try anyway. If not how about laminitating a block out of a few peices of (scrap ?) MDF and then shaping that ? which should give a more solid finish.

  10. Looks good Mark , I've always fancied having a go at one these myself - more chance of me building one of them than a real one :D

The curves on the front of the wing will be filled by a piece of aluminium rolled to the correct profile, but I have left them off for now as they will need priming and prepping differrently to the rest of the tub.

I've never understood why they use metal curves on the wings as they always seem to show up quite badly even on the 'show' models. I think I'd either put a wooden block in and shape it or perhaps use some of the flexible MDF .
