  1. What about Simex Jungle Trekkers mark? I run the 110 on them most of the time and their road manners really arent that bad, nor are they overly aggressive for the odd greenlane trip.

Other than that, I like JU's creepy crawlers, they've been really impressive on the 109.

  2. Commonplace??? I can think of 3.... 2 of which haven't been used to a great extent in the UK.

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot that its only D&G that build buggies worth talking about.... I mean Mitsimog's so easily forgotten....

Funny that Both Jez & i are doing just that Ladoga, Croatia etc.

So you're coming to Russia then Pete??

As to light as possible that also depends on power & terrain.

Erm, yeh thanks for that ;) - I wasn't suggesting that you ditch your engine and go for pedal power, merely that weight saving should be a priority during any build, albeit not to the detriment of robustness or safety.

  3. Flirting with Jez about weight aside (for info, you're both fat b*st*rdsthefinger.gif)

    :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

For my money, John is right on the money with his comments. I have no strong feelings either way about 'built or bought', at the end of the day if you've got the money or skills then you're going to use it/them.

What I do have an issue with is these very expensive buggies, that are now becoming more commonplace, clearing up at local events against relatively standard 90's. Now, this could be argued as the fault of the event organiser's (thats not a dig at anyone, for god's sake lets not go down that path again...) for not separating them into different classes. However, from my point of view, if you've got the ability (through skills or money) to build an international class truck, then you should be competing on the international scene. Transylvannia, Croatia, KOTH, Ladoga, Vepskii Les etc etc are where these trucks will really be put to the test, not slab common! So come on fella's, instead of having a manhood comparison debate on the internet, let's see you out there mixing up with Europe's finest and we'll let the driving do the talking.

Oh, and to answer the original post , I dont think there's a right or wrong answer. Wheelbase is a very personal thing, defined by what best suits your driving style and what events you want to do. Weight-wise, as light as possible!

  4. Consider mounting lightheads in the windows rather than a roofbar, especially if you have alpine lights.

Its a 110 Pickup with an Ifor top so alpine lights are out but some strobes in the back window would work :D

I will have a look at work tomorrow for you

Would be very grateful Paul :)

  5. Thanks for all the replies folks, some food for thought there.

I'm not sure I like the clear LED bars, would need to see a couple fitted in order to make a decision...

Does anyone, besides Ralph, have any photos of their light bars fitted, I'm very shallow  so its got to look good as well as being functional....

  6. Hi all,

I'm after some recommendations for an amber light bar for a recovery duty 110.

    - probably needs to be 4ft

    - either rotators or LEDs but not strobes

    - must have integral stop/tails and indicators

    - work lights/alley lights would be nice but not essential

So, what does everyone use? I've looked at loads of different websites but I'm after some solid recommendations, pictures of ones fitted would be ideal too!

    Cheers,

    Ross

  7. I've just had the OEM alarm and immobiliser activated on my '05 Td5 - as has been said it isnt going to stop the determined theif but its certainly better than nothing (especially the bonnet alarm and passive immobilisation) and it only took an hour to configure so was cheap too!

  8. OK doke, the 90 is about to get a new lease of life and I need a winch bumper for it (for a low line winch, not an 8274). Dont like tubular bumpers as a general rule, so looking for something stock-looking but that doesnt stick out 3 feet from the front of the motor (i.e. close fitting/slighty recessed..)

So, can anyone point me in the right direction or show me some inspiration?

  9. The ones I've had contact with out here in afghan have performed very well - their off road mobility is very good indeed and their Remote Weapon's stations are a huge asset. CTIS is certainly helping to compensate for their weight, particularly by the time they're loaded with all the gear for a week long op. I havent heard any complaints about the room inside them - most people are happy just to have aircon and some form of armour between them and the 7.62mm short nose....

Will get some pics up as and when I'm able.

  10. Hi all,

I'm carp when it comes to electrics so excuse me if this is blatantly obvious to some of you.

I may have made a slight mistake here (apart from buying an electric winch in the first place - hydraulic all the way :P ), perhaps you lot can tell me...

Can I run a 12v winch on a vehicle with 24v electrics? If so, what are the effects likely to be?

  11. Hi all,

am giving my Td5 90 a new lease of life and I need some suspension advice.

Its going to spend much of its future carrying tools and spares and towing my trailer with the race car on it. So, I want to upgrade the shocks and springs to cope, not bothered about lifting it though.

Whilst I dont want to spend a fortune on it, I do believe in doing a job once and doing it right. So, what are people's views and experiences? There's plenty out there on the market but I prefer to have some advice from those who have tried and tested the stuff.

    Ross

P.S. I have tried the search function, but its not turned up the exact info i'm after....
