  1. Another vote for First Four here.

I don't like the tubular ones, but do like the fact they're mounted a bit higher. So I chose the standard version but adjusted the mounting to improve the approach angle.

Thanks for that mate - another really nice, simple looking truck.

Have you any photos showing the departure angle? What have you done to modify the mounting?

Also, have you any details or pics of your snorkel? Looks like what I'm after...

  2. Mine is a D44 made but the Same as the Southdown variant

inline with Chassis rather than above the rails

Yep, I like that - but as I've told you before tony, I like your whole truck, nice and simple looking - just wish I could afford it!

Did you ask Devon to make you up the bumper? What sort of money was in that?

    Ross

  3. D44 bumper - Very strong and good approach angle.

Thats a real nice looking truck mate. Thats more what I'm after bumper-wise - when I said straight, thats the sort of thing I meant. Will it take a low profile winch or is it tailored to the 8274?

Do the Southdown ones look like that too?

  4. Thanks for all the replies so far - seems like First Four have a good reputation.

Does anyone have a square type one? Maybe Devon or Southdown? Just want to compare before I decide...

Steve - it was your truck I had in my head, just couldnt remember who it belonged to! Would you say there was room/access to mount a pair of spotlights either side of the winch on that bumper?

    Cheers,

    Ross

  5. I'm in the market for a new winch bumper. I dont mind if its square or tubular, but I dont want an A bar. Its to accomodate a low profile winch (EP9 or Warn XP type) and needs to maintain as good an approach angle as possible.

So, what have you got? Pictures and advice much appreciated....

  6. I'm after getting my hands on an ex-utilities 110, the sort with the rear lockers etc

I've looked at both tdi and td5 ones and whilst i'm fairly happy with high mileage tdi's, i've no experience of high mileage (c.120k) td5's - has anyone any thoughts? Generally speaking, all of these 110's have been thoroughly maintained throughout so no worries there...

I'm not after any scare-mongering about ecu's and electrickery - I'm a big fan of the td5 just not sure of whether it wears as well as a tdi...

    Cheers,

    Ross

P.S. Anyone got any good links on where to find ex-utility 110's, preferably direct from source....?

  7. Hi all,

the rally team I work with use QT light pods for night stages. They're currently fitted with the standard Ring spots but I'm after upgrading them for something with a bit more range. Ideally, I'd like to go with HID, but they're expensive and they will mean additional wiring.

So, what are you using in yours - does anyone have any recommendations?

    Cheers in advance.

  8. Its probably about time I added a reply to this thread.

Many thanks for all the responses, some slightly more constructive than others.

I do realise that HT's arent selling as well as CSW's, never have, never will. That said, contrary to what many of you seem to think, I didnt just pluck the figure of £9k out of the air.... I looked around at what other 90s were going for and, to be honest, have seen some much worse examples, albeit newer, doing the same money. Take the green X plate shown above for example - I've seen this car in the flesh (its local) and I know that its been a farm hack all its life and the chassis has more holes than a dutch cheese... its also as billy basic as they come and has nothing like a FSH... hence the price.

The comments about not recouping the cost of the extras are well founded and I fully appreciate that - I was merely trying to sell the vehicle with them on to a fellow enthusiast, someone who would appreciate and maybe use them - should I wish to sell it through autotrader, it will appear minus the goodies. As for the lightbar, its merely to allow me to illuminate the dark country lanes around me - this vehicle is not, nor has it ever been, an off roader!

Notwithstanding, thank you once again for your responses. It does seem that the market in the south is slightly more bouyant than it is up here so thats one option open to me, as is a more mainstream form of advertising. However, if it is only worth what some people are suggesting, I may well keep it and run it into the ground. ;)

  9. Last one for tonight, I promise!!

We had a 2001 90 delivered to work today from a well known national hire company. The thing thats confused me is its a TDI... I thought the only TDI's manufactured after 1999 were for export only? surely this cant have sat from 1999 until 2001 before being registered???

    Any thoughts?

    Ross
