  1. Cheers Cieranc,

My vehicle is a V8 so no pre-existing stuff to worry about or compare to hence question as I was a bit in the dark about intercoolers all round. I was thinking of using silicone hoses from begining and didnt want to make a big mistake on pipe sizes. Keeping to one routing size 51mm and simply using step down/up adaptors would make sense.

Did you connect the actuator that opens the small flap valve in the turbo casting to anything? After some advice from another Isuzu conversion vet I junked the big butterfly valve and actuator from the exhaust adaptor casting.

  2. I think I'll go for the twin pass idea, however, what I cant fathom yet is what diameter do I pipe it all up in? is there a standard convention for this? There appear to be a number of different diameters used for various items on the engine going from 32mm on turbo to the large diameter on the air filter.

  3. Cieran,

What size is that twin pass, I think I've been on that blokes shop and thought the twin pass idea would be a neater instalation but I'd been thinking silicone elbows not modding the cooler. Dont have a mate that can weld ally yet. Will be looking at the electric requirements for my Isuzu project this weekend and labeling up the cables.

  4. Have a look on www.mig-welding.co.uk, there are helpful tutorials and an active and helpful forum on there. :)

That's a good forum, MIG is a bit sensitive to this if you can just get a slight amount of dowhhill on it then go downhill you'll be amazed at how different it is to trying to go uphill - as it were!? - I'm not a proper welder by the way!

If thats not working get some old plate and practice but it does sound like you've tried this already.

  5. Was emailed back by a guy from Brunel performance re an intercooler query for my 2.8 Isuzu project, he reccomended looking at a side mounted intercooler. Where would I put this in my land rover engine bay?

Pipework would be shorter so less lag, would there be any advantage in trying to find a twin pass cooler so piopework could be even neater. The previous option considered was a Merc sprinter cooler.

  6. If you were going to build a standard 90 truck cab - all new parts. what engine from above would you put in and why?

If you were going to build a 90 buggy for offroading would you change your first answer?

I have absolutely no need for a Land Rover. but i cant live with out one. so.. i suppose i would only use it

for off roading, mostly in the UK. and prob in pay and play sites. so cant really decide what route to take.

Price is a big issue, so take everything into account.

I've got a 4.6v in 110 (B reg) chassis mot failure with an LPG conversion on. Make me an offer I need the space!

  7. Roy,

It probably is, however, it would be nice to have some thing that is a similar height to the rear coupling. Our boat trailer has on ocasion dug it's rear in with the tow ball mounted on the bumper. Granted this will drop with anything mounted below the the bumper.

Some measuring next time we do some boat maintenance will be done. I do like the idea of something small and neat - which cannot be said of the DB bracket idea.

  8. Going more along the lines of an easily removable DB type now, butt ugly but very practical. It will however not be doing me any favours in the weight and stowability department.

Plan is to use 2 pins to secure it; one through bumper and one to hold outrigger angle section. Luckily I have most of the parts from an old DB unit, those who have not may find this idea a bit pricey.
