  7. Thanks Dave Sounds good is there anything closer? are you local? Duncan
  8. yes you can run with prop off but be were it puts the front diff shafts under more strain i have done this on certain occasions for 30 miles or so. Also the disco will feel under powered due too two drive. you pays your money and takes your choice all the best
  9. new to area looking for local pay n play sites or good off road trips. also anyone local to me that wants to meet up please post back Duncan
  10. Hi to all i have just bought a tmax 11000lbs lowline winch what are they like? do they have holes inside the drum holders? can i make this more water resistant? are the solinoids waterproof? thanks duncan
  11. Hi the the disco will only kickdown in 1st if you are doing less than 30mph! as for what i would look for if going on a long jounery. HMMMMMM! i would change disc and pads wheel bearings all round springs and shocks all the bushes that will get you to a level where you know that all the handling components are sorted. drain all the fluids diff oil, engine oil, gearbox, transfer box, grease all uj,s on the props check the swivels on the front and change for swivel one shot grease. the spares i would take depend on the journey terrain, oil, water, coolant, spare diff, shafts, cv coil, battrey, tools, fuses, hope this helps.Have a good trip Duncan
  12. Hi Alex its sounds like the diff is on its way best way and cheapest is to buy a second hand diff. find out wheather the diff is a 10 spline or a 24 spline i would guess 24 from the age you can buy these from a breakers for about £50-£150. Then its just a case of buying a new seal £3.00 replacing this then takeing the old diff out which is secured by 10 or so 9/16 nuts, drain the diff oil take the wheels off undo the drive flanges pull out the half shafts then undo the diff bolts lift the diff out it is heavy be prepaired then do the reverse and put in the diff oil in the filler hole until it sips out shafts back in job done Duncan
  13. thanks i will change she is now fully up and working after sorting out that useless spider immobalizer what a pain never mind thanks to all of you for your help duncan
  14. my motor is +4" with 33" tyres the water came inside the disco upto the middle of the sterring wheel about 4.5ft (that will teach me not to play with water without a snork) I think i am going to be lucky as she seems to be going ok now i have droped the oil and it didnt look too bad i will give a week with a heater going 24/7 and see if that sorts it Duncan
  15. Thanks for the info, i have already done this. the oil that came out didn,t look too bad. I think the water just went into the piston chambers and the top end, since last night the temp gauge issue seems to of righted itself with a squirt of wd40 and most of the electrics still damp but another couple of days with a heater should do it. the only thing i was not sure about is how to check the head gasket as the exhaust is clear the temp is fine. any other checks i could do? Thanks Duncan
  16. Hi to all can you guys help?? i took my 3.9 v8 disco off road at farley quarry today, went too deep in the lake and sucked water straight into the engine (glug glug) the said engine then died. I got recovered, took sparks out, then turned her over too clear the water (a fair bit pumped out). I then wd40 everywere.i then crossed my fingers and tuned it over. She took about a minute but she fired up, after half an hour ticking over to dry her out i noticed the temp gauge was in the red after watching for a while i noticed that it was randomly going from cool too hot and then stayed hot do you guys think that it is water in the electrics doing this or somthing more sinster( i also drove 20 miles home with the temp gauge showing above hot but the engine seemed fine.) also my windows central locking indicators hazard lights dont work, after some time drying out do you think these will start working again or will there be fuses gone? thanks from i am going to buy a snorkle tomorrow Duncan
  17. Thanks wizard i will pick one up tommorow Duncan
