In NZ Defender $73 grand Toyota 70 series 4.5V8 turbodiesel (430nm 1200 rpm) twin difflocks, aircon and snorkel $71 grand Jeep wrangler 4 door rubicon twin difflocks etc petrol or diesel manual or auto $49 - $53 grand. makes it tough to consider a new landy...

There is some stiff competition over here (NZ & Aussie). New 70 series Toymota landcruiser has a 4.5 litre twin turbo V8 diesel - and front and rear difflocks for 2 grand NZ (about 600 pounds) - and a snorkel. All for the price of a standard 110. If only landrover would match - imagine the twin turbo V8 diesel from the rangie in a fender with twin difflocks out of the factory...

Old story from Seth Efrika... Landrover deeply bogged in mud - lazy squaddies hooked up... a tank!... with chains. Tank drove off, dragging landrover body behind it. Wheels axles etc remained in mud. Don't know if it's true... but it's a good story!
