My 200Tdi had bout 50 mm play rather than the nominal 9.5 so I adjusted it following the guidelines on here.

One comment was to only move the locknut [it is a 6 bolt unit BTW] a quarter turn at a time. Out of interest, what would happen if it was

over-adjusted?

Where is the earth supposed to go? Is it onto the starter or the engine or gearbox?

With the engine in the vehicle I just can't see where it is.

After chatting with a friend, it is clear that what I need to find is a high quality solenoid for the starter as it has been the

solenoids that have failed; the actual starters have been working fine.

I'll check what make I have and if a "genuine" solenoid is available before I buy a new Bosch unit.

I have had my 200Tdi 110 for 4 years and have just had the 4th starter solenoid pack up.

Any ideas? The rewind company took the last one apart and found the contacts severely corroded.

The only thing that occurs to me is that we live 400 yards from the sea.

Yes, gauge goes to zero with the ignition off.

My fuel gauge, '92 200TDi 110, won't go below 3/8. Has been like that since I got the vehicle 3 years ago.

Any ideas? Will go 100 miles further, and only takes 50-ish litres to fill up.

I am about to do some arc welding [not MIG] on my 92 110.

Other than removing the battery, is there anything else I should do?

I vaguely recollect a comment about disconnecting the alternator.

I called Paddocks - the mounting is PM728, 5 pounds plus VAT. They told me to add it to my web order by writing it in in the additional comments box.

Les Hensen's excellent article in the archive says Paddocks sell them for about a fiver, but I can't find it on their website.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Yesterday I had that sinking feeling that you get when you push a screwdriver into an odd looking spot on the chassis and the screwdriver goes on through!

It is below the point where the offside rear anti-roll bar bracket is attached to the chassis. It is a '92 110.

What is the best plan of attack? Plate it? Should the fuel tank come out for access and safety reasons?

Does anyone know the name and/or part number for the "rubber" plug that goes into the front dumb iron on a '92 Defender?

Is it worth having? When I took the bumper off to repaint it I found loads of dirt/rust etc. inside the dumb iron.
