TD5 Thrown a rod!

Hi All,

Can any body help with this most unexpected catastrophe? My Discovery 2 has 140k miles and has been regularly serviced. Whilst travelling at approx 2500rpm a large bang followed by a lot of smoke found me stopped at the side of the road. After some investigation under the bonnet to my horror I spied a large hole in the side of the block where I could actually see the crank! There is plenty of oil in the engine (even now). Has anyone experienced anything like this or any idea what could have caused it? or where I can get a second hand TD5 engine in Derbyshire area?

Just one of those things I guess - not a common occurrence unless maybe the oil pump went on it.

I would talk to a breakers such as Equicar, we recently had a low mileage Td5 engine from them, price was fine and the engine was a good one, also it comes with a 30 day warranty so you can get it in and running and make sure it is OK.
