headhunter
I have a 110 csw recently returned to the road after a major refurb. A new noise has just started when moving off and up through the gears. Its intermittent and sounds like a tip of a fan just touching something (like a dink sound) The clutch is new 1300 miles so far. At first I wondered if something had come adrift in the clutch bell housing, but the clutch works OK. I have had a good look underneath, there is nothing touching or snagging. Its not an engine ancillary part causing the problem. Could there be something in the hand brake system catching on the drum? I did notice a small bit of play in the rear universal joint next to the rear axel, so I will change this. The noise is definitely from something that revolves when under way making the smallest of contacts on an intermittent basis, it is not a clunk or heavy contact but quite tinny sounding. Any ideas or suggestions please. John
landi41
Perhaps a handbrake shoe "just touching" ? or perhaps some debris or as they say "foreign material" has found its way into the handbrake drum.......... ?? Good Luck with it !!
JST
if it sounds tinny does that suggest its hitting the seat/floor panels. something stuck on the prop - cable tie etc?
Ben Reedy
Look carefully at the coils of the springs to check they aren't rattling against each other at the top or bottom where they're close.
JST
What was it?
headhunter
What was it? I don't know, the noise has gone, however I did drive and reverse back a few times applying and releasing the hand brake at each end. Then started to get vibration through the transmission at 40/50 mph but not sure if it is related to the previous problem or something else. I will go through the obvious, such as swapping tyres front to back, changing one slightly worn rear prop rear u/j and anything else I can check for movement. The vehicle has only done 1300 miles since rebuild which included polybushes all round, so they should be all ok. John
