On start up he has a loud knocking noise that sounds like the big ends are going but it dissapears within a minute or so! Any ideas?? JimAttrill Posted March 17, 2008 Share Posted March 17, 2008 Could be piston slap if it goes away when warm - big end knock will not. But piston slap is not normally noticeable over the racket of a diesel anyway. If you get black smoke at the same time it could be over-advanced injection timing.
