TD5 Fuel Consumption

I have a friend who has a TD5 disco and at the moment he is getting about 16mpg out of it (only slightly better than my 3.5).

I have done some investigating and it looks like it could be something to do with the EGR valve. anyone have any other ideas where to look for a problem?

cheers

My 2001 TD5 Auto Disco has now done 165000 miles ..many of them towing and still returns a steady 31mpg. The only time it dropped below that is when the intercooler was clogged up post paddling in a bog. Cleaned it inside and out and its been fine ever since

Just buy a egr blamk plate from e-bay.

My manual does 25mpg ish did same before i chipped it.

Less if you thrash it and 27/7on a run.

Some people get over 30mpg but i havent got the time or the inclination to try  ie im a lazy git and just want to get there now.

Hi all ,

New to site, have had my Td5 Auto 2001(also chipped) for 6 mths and since I ripped out EGR get 24 -25 mpg ( I live with hills all way round ) round the doors but have managed 29mpg on run M way driving( prior to removing EGR). A good service has also made a fair difference to mpg. I usually tow a 14' trailer low loader and heavily loaded have seen it dip to 20mpg but this was before I removed the EGR.

Cheers
