Skanny
just inside the front nearside wing under the bonet on the 300tdi. Its a cylindrical little thing with what looks like vaccum pipe coming off it and a multiplug too. Its under that L shaped metal bracket thats removable to gain access. If i had my camera it would be easier!
Pete Attryde
Pics would help It could be for the EGR system.
cipx2
By "L shaped metal bracket" you mean the wheel choke?
Mark
If it as per the picture above, then it is the EGR Valve solenoid. There should be 3 pipes and one electrical connection, unless the EGR valve has been removed...
Skanny
By "L shaped metal bracket" you mean the wheel choke? Yes thats the L shaped bit. you called it a wheel choke??? Thanks
Mark
The metal 'L' shaped bit is a Wheel Chock - it is for putting under a wheel to ensure the vehicle does not move when jacking (using the jack that should be just next to it...)

JNP
LOL,I should have guessed it was a typo! Thanks for the ID guys. Looking at the engine I noticed you are using the plastic Plug ( for bleeding the cooling system ) , also one on the radiator , best replace this with brass plugs . One of the fist things I did with my Disco 1 - those plastic plugs are terrible , not worth risking over heating motor if one of those go. cipx2
Well, it was a typo/spelling error in my message anyway. As for the cylindrical bit, you got the answer from Mark. It's a solenoid that's converts the electrical signals from the EDC/EGR ECU into pneumatic "commands" to control the EGR valve on the exhaust manifold. 61a
Best thing to replace the radiator plug with is a very well engineered item from x-eng.co .uk in Horsham. Jules
JimAttrill
Or even a badly-engineered stop plug from your local plumber Anything is better than the plastic plugs. Another invention of the LR tea lady helped by the bean counters.
stageonesimmo
I have 2 very natty 1/2" BSP blanking plugs in mine - one on the rad and one on the 'stat housing - total of less then 2 quid from B&Q - peace of mind - priceless.
