Spider isn't that bad, took me under 30 minutes to get to where it should be (only to find it wasn't there!), about 15 mins to put it all back together, follow the guides on here in the tech forum, they're not bad just missed a couple of bits out.

A LR specialist I spoke to reckoned he was fitting bypass plugs without taking the dash out, all through the radio hole, he said he figured a way of doing it after he'd done a couple, not sure if he pulls the relevant loom up a bit, or if you can just reach?

It's only the center part of the dash which has to be removed.

No idea about the toad alarm fitting though!

Yes you can fit a toad alarm to your motor......it will not cause any problems with the LR alarm unless you arm both and forget to dis-arm both.....easyest way is to just use the new alarm and not arm the old LR one or remove it as posted above.

ta, do you still see this specialist as the idea of only stripping a section out to get to the spider seems like a good idea, when you found it is it an actual part of the wiring loom or an add on,

No I don't see him he went bust!

I never found it as it turned out the spider isn't as separate unit on the EDC controlled discoverys (300tdi Autos From 1995 on). On these models it is built into the alarm in a box in the passenger side, but I didn't find that out until after I had ripped half of the dash out!

The job as described by BogMonster in the tech section isn't bad I think there were just a few screws missed out, so I followed the guide to the letter then struggled as it was still stuck in, not sure which they were now but I think it was, the bit just under the stereo, on mine a black piece of trim runs under the stereo - this has a couple of screws behind it. Don't know how you get the trim out without braking it as I broke mine!

Hardest part was getting the clock and coin holder out, I found that a swiss army knife blade in just the top did the trick.

I found the location where the spider should be and looking at it, it looks feasible that the spider could just be removed through the hole where the stereo is but I wouldn't guarantee it
