Snorkel Fitting Question

Recommended Posts

Quick question....

I am fitting a Safari Snorkel to a 300tdi, however I have the wrong hose piece, don't ask how....

It will fit if I remove the water trap piece piece, i.e. go straight from the snorkel to the filter housing....should i remove the piece?

It is shown in the above image......

thanks for any help....Rob

it will work, but i won't risk it.

although the safari snorkel has some technology to expel water being taken in at the top, it's a 2nd layer of protection should any water go down. However, the air filter too, should also stop a little water from going into the engine but in the long run it's not an ideal situation.

Try to fit the pieces correctly and you can live with a peace of mind that it's been done the right way.

You will get different comments on this... if you plan to go deep wading I'd be inclined to take out the water trap as it's another source of water entry especially if the rubber goes brittle.

It looks like you've been provided with an earlier type snorkel which has a pipe straight through to the air box :)

Your right,

It is the older style, Arbil were selling them off...a lot cheaper than the 300tdi ones...and all that was different was the pipe, So i figured I could bodge something....I will maybe buy a length of pipe...from somewhere

Thanks for the advice.....Rob
