Anyone run the breathers from axles etc in the filter housing as opposed to the top of the snorkel.

After removing egr and gubbins there is a redundant pipe on the side of the filter housing, the only minus point I can think of is either vapours or oil might be sucked through these and then directly into the intake side .... if you get my drift.

I have always run mine up the snorkle ,the only draw back i can think of is oil vapour in the inlet track/filter that will attract any dirt to stick to it .If you rolled the car theres a (remote) chance oil would fill your filter box . only a thought!!!!

I've run the breather from my front axle into the side of the airbox on my 300Tdi disco...

the rear axle breather goes up into the rear quarter panel via a rubber grommet in the floor (used by rear lights wiring lomb)

I've never had any problems with oil being sucked up the breather....
