Different oil issues

Morning all!!

A quick question on the gearbox of our 1987 3.5EFi 5sp Manual - what oil should be in the gearbox?? I have been told previously that it should be filled with the oil used in the Auto box - is this right???

The reason I ask is that during the last few excursions in it, the drive has become very fidgety and clunky on over-run - i.e. when letting off the accelerator (still in gear) on the approach to junctions, roundabouts and the like - and when at low revs in each gear.

Any suggestions??

Cheers

Adrian

Dexron II / ATF is specified for LT77 with EP90 in t/box.

Later Borg Warner t/box takes ATF

Best option is to buy some MT75 from Difflock, which is far superior to ATF

The clunking could be Aframe ball joint or worn radius arm bushes let alone normal backlash from wear.

Cheers for that!

I don't think the clunking is anything more than backlash, but it may be more pronnounced if there isn't any oil in the g/box / transfer box!!??!!

Tomorrow's job I think!! B) get's me out of the house!!

From experience with my trialer, which has the LT77s, it reacts very well with regular gearbox oil changes, it goes from a clunky to smooth shift
