Book icon on heater Controls

so the book icon only relates to the heater system ?

No.

q-rover was using a bit of shorthand, which is OK if the reader understands the system, but not for a new-comer.

The generic term for modern 'heating' systems is HEVAC - Heating, Ventilation, and Airconditioning.

Obviously this could be three separate systems.

In most versions of the 38A Range Rover the systems are combined. This is covered by the Marketing term Climate Control.

Climate Control is when the system automatically adjusts any or all of the systems at the same time.

Thus the Book plus Exclamation Mark indicates a fault with the Climate Control, which could be in either the Heating, Ventilation, or Airconditioning systems. Or it could be a fault in the control system.

You may or may not be able to establish, via a Manual Test, what functionality is missing. Otherwise you need someone with a product from Blackbox Solution, or Autologic, or the Land Rover Dealer to read the Fault Codes.

Nine times out of ten the chequebook symbol comes on because of a fault with one of the vent flap motors (blend motors). They get old and start to become sluggish or sometimes stop moving altogether. You can sometimes pusuade them to wake up by turning the ignition on and off a few times in quick succession, but this rarely works.

The other common causes of the symbol are the car is low on a/c gas, or a failure of any of the various sensors (interior, exterior or matrix temp sensor).

Run through a few checks to try to establish what does and doesn't work. Does the heater get hot, does the a/c get cold? Can you distribute the hot or cold air throughout the various vents correctly? Are fuses 8 and 17 still ok?

But ultimately, as mentioned above, the car will need plugging in before you dive in with the spanners to establish which parts you need to purchase.

Im also having this problem with book on HEVAC unit. Blend motors seem to be diverting ok but air con is hardly working if at all. Heating doesnt seem to be working either, one other thing thou is that my heater matrix is leaking and obviously losing coolant, could all this be connected ??
