lawrence
I have decided it is about time that I started a landrover project as I have always wanted to, the problem is I am unsure what vehicle I should use. I want to use a discovery my wife wants a defender. does it make a big difference for a first project and what is the best engine to buy. I would have thought a diesel with a manual gearbox would be best but this is just a guess as I have never owned a landrover before. Please help. BogMonster
I suppose it depends on what form you see your project taking. A Discovery is likely to be cheaper and more plentiful but probably harder to modify without it looking like a dog's breakfast. Which engine is like which winch you will get all the answers within minutes of each other

Hi Lawrence, What will be the main activity your LR will have to do? Shopping run around work taxi green lane driving or a challenge beast once you have decided that you will be able to better asses what ride to go for. I have both, A disco converted for challenges and a 110 defender for more sedate work. Both are diesel so as to have less aggro in water, the disco is auto and the 110 is manual I was thinking to sell the 110 but have become too attached to let her go, never thought you could have an affair with metal all the best Lawrence PS are there still only about 15 houses in Gribthorpe? drkwack
Hi welcome to the family, as already mentioned depends what you intend using it for. They both have pros and cons, body wise the defender is easier to repair its a big meccano kit the disco is definately more car bodyshop repair style, although it is possible to repair economically if you are capable, take your time and let your head rule NOT your heart. there are some rot boxes out there.
