Lars L Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 A mate with a '96 300Tdi Disco needs a new alternator. Paddock lists three different part Nos and prices based on engine and VIN Nos, Craddock lists only one. Does anybody know what the actual differences are? Or rather, can he buy the cheapest (Craddock) and it will fit OK? The Disco is nowhere near to me and the guy has some problems finding the engine number... Quote
Les Henson Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 The differences are actually related to the heat shielding - No of pillars on the rear of the alternator to mount it on. If I remember right, it's 3-pillar, 2-pillar, and no heat shield. The various alternators themselves will still fit the engine, and the wiring is all the same. If you look at this thread, you will see in the first picture what I mean. The pillars are there solely for mounting the heat shield. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=33907 Les. Quote
Lars L Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Thanks, I think Craddock will get an order for one for £74 something. Instead of £112 from Paddock for the proper one according to his (now found) engine number. Quote
