DrT
My 200Tdi Disco has just done a weird one. When I parked up and turned off the ignition the charging warning light came on. This is with no keys in the ignition. If I turn on the ignition prior to starting then the oil warning light comes on but the charging light goes out? When I start the Disco all the lights go out as you would expect. Any ideas why the charging light looks like its working backwards? Thanks. jimmy_neutron
Seen that once before on a Mk3 escort. Turned out to be a duff alternator. Best test i can think of is to disconnect the thin wire on the back of the alternator which i think will have a spade connector and see if the light goes out. If it does then theres your problem. cipx2
More precisely, one of the diodes in the rectifier unit on the back of the alternator has had it. The rectifier assembly is part# RTC5671 (if you still have the original A127 65A alternator, part# RTC5681, that is).

Thanks for that, I'll order a new diode pack!
