RATRACER
Hello, can anyone offer any advice on converting the diesel injection pump on my 300 tdi auto to mech. type.Big job? Just having trouble with a terrible misfire, which has been diagnosed as the throttle pot. This can cost big money,if what i have been told at the garage is true(£600) , will start to trawl the breakers tomorrow. It's just the thought of all that electronic gear just waiting to go wrong again.Need to get back to a bloody simple cable arrangement! Look forward to your valued replies! Pete Attryde
This thread might help :- EDC removal, From memory it cost me about £300 to get all the bits and I got £200 back by flogging the removed bits. Pete.
Ally V8
You might want to get a second opinion on the diagnosis, the throttle pot failing is likely to put the Mil lamp on or put the engine ecu into limp mode - not cause a misfire.Seeing as the EDC pump's hydraulic head is basically the same as the mechanical one,ie it outputs via the same plunger for all 4 cyls,a misfire caused by the pump is very unlikely - except possibly if it had air in the fuel.Your misfire is more likely to be the result of a failed injector,or poor compression, jumped pushrod, failed cam follower, blown head gasket etc.The EDC system is generally as reliable as the mechanical system, but often not well understood - so it gets blamed for all ills.
