twohuts
My 1990 Defender 90 has just failed it's MOT on offside head light not having the correct beam and requires replacing. I bought a set of halogen conversiion head lights. 1. having trouble releasing the old ones. 2. The plug on the back is not the halogen type. Do I have to rewie with a new plug as well? Also the side lights are seperate, is there a wiring diagram that gives the terminations for the bulb plug? It seems that everything I buy that should be straight forward isn't. Is the miliatry version much different with regard to replacement parts? Any help would be appreciated as I have to get it retested by Friday. pete3000
The plug should be the same, have you pulled the rubber cup shield away and removed the rubber push in plug hiding the terminal block on the back of the bulb? There are two sets of connectors, one set on the bulb (halogen three pin)red/yellow/blue and another set about 12 inches down the extension lead into the headlamp recess which terminates in three bullet connectors. three seperate wires coloured red yellow and blue. The real problems may begin when the replacements aren't quite the same profile lens and they don't sit on the headlamp rim at the front. Pete Thanks Pete, Got the headlight out and found what you said. The trouble with it now is the rubber seal is missing, this must have caused the sealed beam to get water ingress. Now the 3 pin plu will not fir on with the rubber seal provided with the replacement halogen. I will have to search for an original rubber seal that fits insde the 3 pin rubber cover. Thanks again for your reply.
