Mr_Smig
Advice Welcome! A friend has a 1995 300 TDI Automatic. His Mrs moved the car off the drive so he could get the other car out on Tuesday without any issues but when she started it the next day there was no drive at all. A few weeks ago it ground to a halt after deciding to ditch the Automatic Transmssion Fluid on the road which was topped up by a "Very Nice Man" and seemed to be ok afterwards once a seal had been replaced (no idea which one though!). Is it replacement box time or is there a more obvious problem? Appologies for being a tad vague as I've not seen the vehicle myself at this point. Cheers! BogMonster
More info needed I think. If it is in the gearbox I would suspect either the drive plate or the splines in the transfer box but it normally sounds like stonecrusher when the plate goes - <clangclangclangclang> even a woman would notice that I think you/he needs to do a careful check around and particularly - does it move in difflock, or in low range - are there any noises - when you try and move it are either or both of the propshafts turning while the vehicle is not moving If it spat all the fluid out it might have damaged the torque converter but more info is needed to have any sort of chance of diagnosis. Rolly
Simplest things first. The transfer box wasn't knocked into neutral was it?
