DrRob Posted June 25, 2009 Share Posted June 25, 2009 Taken the visc fan off the 200tdi today - link for reference. How "free/stiff" should the nut be on the back of the unit when off the vehicle? Should it be halfway between "free" and "solid". Sorry, not very scientific but just thought it was worth checking with you guys as it's off. cipx2 Posted June 26, 2009 Share Posted June 26, 2009 I'd say it should be: - 1/3 away from "solid" (pretty stiff) for the first 1-2 turns - going close to 1/2 way in the next 4-5 turns - getting closer and closer to "free" as you keep turning it. That's from taking a brand new OE 300tdi (pretty much the same as a 200 tdi one) viscous clutch out of its box and keeping it in its working position (vertical).
