DiscoClax
Hi all, I've got the opportunity (if I'm really quick) of getting a rebuilt (greaseable unis, etc) Disco 2 V8 front driveshaft with the double-cardan joint for reasonable coin, and he'll chuck in a new front flange kit for a bit extra. I've heard rumour that these can be fitted to D1 V8s if the transfer case flange is swapped for a matching D2 item, however I haven't seen anything concrete to confirm this. The reason I'd like to do this is to allow more suspension lift, as the standard UJ front shaft is working at quite an angle and I've spat one of the UJs out already. With the DC joint I can run a higher angle without any dramas and it should run smoother, too. The question is, has anyone done this? Or knows of it being done? Any pitfalls or drawbacks? Advice gratefully received. It's an Australian '94 Disco V8 auto (update 3.9ltr, no cats) if that makes a difference. Cheers
tuko
I know a guy who's done this after installing a 2" lift to his Disco I, it eliminated the vibrations that he was getting from the front end. He's been running this setup for several years without any ill effect. Todd.
DiscoClax
Cheers Todd, Do you know if it was a V8 or diesel? IIRC they have different chassis cross-members in that area and swing clearance looks to be a bit tight for mine. Don't know if I need to do some local remodelling, which I'd like to avoid if possible. Carsten.
barmiebrumie
Hi, I have done this on a Disco 1 but it was a 200 tdi, just changed the output flange on the transfer box for a TD5 one & bolted it on, was on for over two years & the Disco had a 4 inch lift, not sure if the gearbox cross member is different on a V8 though John
andy2986
Ive done this to my 97 3.9 V8 Auto + 2" lift no more vibration well worth doing. It has had the cats taken off, I think the only problem with the V8's is if they have cats on still its very tight for a D/C front shaft.
