200tdi warning light...

On the motorway today a warning light on my '93 200tdi came on. It's only been flickering occasionally, it's the one directly below indicator light. Is that the difflock warning light? I wouldn't know as it never worked anyway (difflock does, just not the light).

Is it just a loose connection on my difflock light then?

It looks a bit like a letter H or a basic picture of a 4wd system.

Any help would be lovely. Cheers.

Yep, that's what the light is. Supposed to come on when you've locked the transfer diff. Will also stay on to warn of transmission wind up but no idea how it senses that. Will probably also come on if you have something loose somewhere :)

Its a plunger type sensor that is on the drivers side of the transfer box. It only a single wire and if this wire wears through or is grounded then your dashboard light will come on.

It detects the actuating lever inside the transfer box, so it will stay lit if the locking dog is engaged. Wind-up will stop the dog disengaging, so the light stays on. With the lever in the not-locked position, the light will go out when the dog releases, when the wind-up is sorted. :)
