Welding to ally radiators ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've got an ally radiator that has not been used yet, so still clean / dry :) What i was wondering is, can i cut the old pipe off and tig it back on at another angle ? This is due to it being tight for space :(

I'm a little concerned that i damage something else (warps / breaks with the heat).

Cheers

Gordon

One could if one wished cut anything up and tig it back together. The question of whether YOU can do it is one that only YOU can answer.

It's been done plenty of times before in the lab.

not I, but a friend who am yet to ask tig's for a living

To make a good clean weld clean the area with scotchbrite and then wipe down with isoproprenol alchol, make sure the joint is very well fitted as you will find it really hard to bridge any gaps, you could use an ally welding rod with a silicone content which is easier to use if you dont weld ally offen. I always use 5 percent magnisium welding rod .
