V8CAMEL
just replaced the lt230 in the 200tdi disco with a unit from a 95 auto disco. the new unit had a transducer speedo whilst the 200tdi is cabled. HAve removed the transducer but cannot get the old cable to fit in the square hole as the end is larger than the transducer square end. Is there a speedo cable off the shelf which fits paul
cipx2
Replace the bits down to the speedo driven gear as well, i.e use the cable matching speedo driven gear from the old unit as well. LT230 from a 95 auto disco what, tdi or V8?
V8CAMEL
failed unit is 200 tdi lt77 manual 1991 vintage. new unit is 1996 300tdi auto paul
cipx2
It's ok then. Clean up the area and watch out for dirt ingress. You can use pair of long nose pliers to pull the bits out. Be very careful not to crush anything and mind the speedo gears are plastic. Put all the bits back with your fingers, don't use tools. There's also a seal there, be careful with it. cipx2
Yes, you can do it in situ. The handbrake might be in the way though.

cipx2
Look at the last 6 pics in this thread: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=14601 Your old transfer box should look like in 3rd pic from the bottom. Use 2 flat screwdrivers placed 180 degrees in the groove you see and lever the top part (the holder - the part on left side in 5th pic from bottom) out. It's probably rusted and doesn't want to come out that easy. Remove the driven speedo gear with the pliers if it doesn't come out together with the holder. Clean the bits, oil them and put them on the 'new' box as an assembly (like in the 4th pic from bottom). Wiggle/rotate the speedo gear before the holder gets home to make sure the driven gear engages the drive gear correctly.
