hoss1720
Ive just changed the engine in my defender from a 19j to a 200 tdi. Got everything in and got it running, but I dont appear to have any igniton lights on the dash. The fuel warning light is on but nothing else. When I initially tried to start it the only light that was on was the diff lock light, but after a bit of fiddling that went off and the engine started. The main earth cable from the engine to the chassis is missing.Could this be the problem or is it something else ive damaged or missed out during the conversion? western
The main earth cable from the engine to the chassis is missing get one & fit it, your handbrake cable is probably acting as a poor subsitute, not doing the engine any favours either if you've got the original engine earth lead use that. hoss1720
earth lead replaced with a new one. still no battery light. the engine strarts and runs fine. could it be the alternator? whats the best way of checking?
western
check the charge light bulb is working, if it's not the alternator will not self excite/charge.
