300 tdi crank bolt removal

Recommended Posts

hi looking for any help / advice got a 300 tdi (in a rangie) and need to replace the crank pully followed advice on here on how to get the bolt undone and it has freed it off so it turns for a bit then just jams up and will not move at all (had a 4ft bar on it)

has any one else had this issue? and if so how did you get around it?

at the moment i have removed the starter motor so i can jam the flywheel however the bolt is not turning really need to get this off as want to use the rangie.

oh it s a range rover 300 tdi auto and factory fitted if that makes any diffrence

cheers

That sounds like a heavy problem. If you have loosened the bolt a bit I would use a good penetrating oil on it for a few days and alternatively tighten it and loosen it with your 4 ft bar. Perhaps tap on the end of the bolt in its loosest position to loosen up any rust on the threads etc.

At the end of the day its only a fine threaded bolt in a threaded hole.

Maybe not for the perfectionists on here but oxy/acet till glowing will get it off, had to do that once on a 300tdi in the past.

well had another go and plenty of oil and backwards and forward however th bolt just seems to get tighter its really strange so guess its the garage as have no oxy or air tools.

still part of the joy of having a rangie i guess i mean where else do you get the chance to learn how to weld remove rusty well stuck on bits of car and get hated by all the green crowd so not all bad then :-)
