nicks90
you'll find it more effective to open up the heater box and clean the matrix fins. You will surprised at the amount of crud that can get in there, especially if you offroad. Mine started to make horrible smells, opened it up and there was 1/4" of 'Tong bog' over the front face of the whole matrix. No wonder it was useless and smelt bad. About 2 years later i opened it up again and there was about a fistful of vegetation decaying on the fins. Bits of leaf, mould, twigs etc... No idea how it got through the wing cover, through the fan and into the heater box around all those bends etc.

mickeyw
How do you open it up? Is it a quick & simple job? Hardly! It's quite a lengthy job, but worth doing. Firstly you need to remove the whole heater box assy from the truck. Then you'll need to drill out the pop rivets that hold the casing together. Have a careful look at it to decide which ones to remove, you don't need to do all of them. Then just slide the matrix out and give everything a good clean. To reassemble you'll need new rivets to replace those you drilled out. It's also worth applying some sealant around the casing so you don't loose blown air through the joints. The matrix should be held in place/cushioned by foam strips around its edges. It should not rattle when assembled.
