I'm currently working on a plant to convert waste plastic/old tyres/cardboard/wood/grass clippings/any carbonaceous material you care to think of into a mixture of petrol and diesel. It's not that easy - I wouldn't expect many people to be doing it in a shed, but it's been done on an industrial scale for a while now.
