Fandrover
Hi all Here again asking for ideas/solutions. Spent most of the day on the steering and tracing a duff earth affecting the lights with some success only to find that I cant open the second row drivers side door. Took both sides doorcards off from the inside so I could compare in hope of finding the problem but with no joy. Lock moves as it should, all levers etc from both inside and outside handles work the same but unfortunately only one side opens! The problem Im stuck on is either how to get it open or how to remove the latch while locked?
stuck
Have you given it a good spray with WD40? Sounds simple but it sorted the back door on my 110 commercial.
Fandrover
Cheers Stuck Big fan of simple solutions but Im afraid the magical WD40 didnt work this time. Ive just spent a couple of hours searching the Haynes and the Workshop Manual but no joy on how to get the thing open!
DaveSIIA
Sounds like the latch on the over-centre catch is sticking and not releasing the catch when you try to open the door. Have a look at the catch on the opposite door and find the latch above it (easier to see when the catch is in the closed position). Arm yourself with a narrow (~3mm) flat blade screwdriver and practice lifting the latch, so tha catch swings open. Once you have the hang of it, do the same to the closed door. Once open, liberally lubricate the latch and over-centre catch - run through the open/close cycle a few times before closing the door. Fandrover
Cheers Guys Sorted it, turns out that when looking at the latch mechanism you can see two latch 'levers', the upper being for the locking mechanism (up unlocked/down locked) and the lower being for the opening mechanism. For some reason on this particular door even though the upper mechanism was firmly in unlocked, as soon as either inner or outer handle was pulled the upper locking mechanism drops approx 5mm which is enough to 'lock' the door again. So far just cleaning/greasing and operating 100 times seems to have done the trick. Thanks again for the help, and hope the above helps anyone else who gets this problem Mark
