muddy4x4xfar Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 hi all this prob sounds like a stupid question but im still learning the mechanicing sorta stuff im in process of changing head gasket on my discovery 200tdi but in need to change the valves on the head aswell as there leaking oil , is there some sort of forum on here that explains how to do it. iv tried looking but my computer keeps saying page not found . can anyone help many thanks chris Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fozsug Posted October 19, 2011 Share Posted October 19, 2011 You wont need to change the valves, you will need to change the valve guide oil seals,number 14 on the picture and possibly re lap the valves. Cyl head off, use a valve spring compressor to remove the collets(11) that hold the valve spring retainer plate(10) on. Remove plate and spring(9), renew seal(14) and reassemble. Les Henson Posted October 19, 2011 Share Posted October 19, 2011 Fozsug is entirely correct and therefore wins a banana Check side play at the same time - if it's excessive, then the guides need replacing, which is a fun thing to do, Usually stem seals and perhaps a valve lap is all you generally need to do.
