Frax
Hi Have another little problem - I have fitted a VDO oil pressure gauge and wired it up as follows. + = 12v ignition feed G = Signal from oil pressure sender. The other terminal I grounded. When I turn on the ignition with engine not running the gauge goes full scale. Have I made another mess of things ???????????? western
have you got the matching VDO pressure sender, not the engines warning light switch, it won't read from that.
Frax
Yes I have got the sender unit, can not remember if its a VDO though but it is of the same range as the gauge.
western
does the pressure sender look like these VDO units or is it the LR cadmium plated variant, VDO gauges seem very particular to work with their own VDOsenders, my oil temp gauge wouldn't work with the LR switch but is OK with the VDO unit, gauge markings looking at back of gauge with illumination bulb holder at the top + on left to 12v - on bottom to earth S on right to sender reckon one of the wires is wrong to make it show full scale, it shouldn't read until the engine is running. Frax
Its the cadmium plated version and as far as I remember has only one connector on the top. Will be going out later so will have a look at the wiring and the sender unit.
western
circular body with a flat end, sounds like mine [picture below] PRC4043. in the VDO link above theirs have a silver coloured body.

western
can't find the FAE1450 number on the infernal web, if that's the part number [it's not a LR number] where did you get the sender from, reckon it's not matched to the vdo gauge. can't see any other reason why it won't work. Frax
You could be right, it came from ebay and was new but could be rubbish quality.
western
it's probably fine for the standard LR gauge but not for your more accurate VDO gauge, merlin motorsport, demon tweeks or europa spares all supply vdo gauges & senders/switches. Frax
Well you were right, VDO sender worked a treat, had it running today after months and it was reading about 50psi and dropped to about 20psi when hot.
western
Excellent, I want to update my oil pressure gauge soon, it'll be a VDO gauge so it matches my oil temp & voltmeters.
