New Rear Tub for 1986 Ex MoD Defender

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 1986 Ex-Mod 90 Softop; I am currently disassembling it. The panels and frame on the rear tub are well beaten, and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for a replacement. Is it possible to buy new or do I have to be used?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Duncan

I'm not sure you can buy a complete rear tub unless a somewhere has some new-old stock. It may be worth trying dunsfold land rovers. Also you could try craddocks or witham specialist vehicles etc...they both carry a lot of military parts.

If that isn't successful then you will have to look around breakers yards, eblag etc for secondhand parts.

It is also possible to rebuild your current tub using new panels. Have a look here: http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/parts_books/90/9_body_chassis_p794-923.pdf from page 870 onwards for part numbers.

Hi Duncan

Welcome to the forum. As already mentioned you will probably be better off scouring fleabay for a good used one. A few things id like to add - the tub on my 110 project was really bad. Especially where the tub bolts onto the mounting brackets that hold it down onto the outriggers. Only a TIG welding master would have been able to do a GOOD repair. The thing about corrosion in this area is that there isnt a cheap replacement panel available. I ended up getting an excellent one from the aforementioned auction site. Be sure that you get good close-up pics of the trouble areas i mentioned before you travel to pick it up.
