Bluemoon
Here are some pics. That looks spot on, but how is the shaft into the transfer box held in place, and are there bearings holding each end. Brian
Bush65
That looks spot on, but how is the shaft into the transfer box held in place, and are there bearings holding each end. Brian The input gear in an LT230 is supported by taper roller bearings at each end. The gear is hollow through its length and has an internal spline for for the gearbox output shaft. Because the output from the ZF auto transmission doesn't match, they use a spud shaft to adapt to the LT230. From memory the ZF spud shaft is drilled and tapped in the end, so it should be possible to use a bolt and washer to retain it in the input gear of the LT230. This page from Aschcroft Transmissions has a pic of the spud shaft, but it doesn't show the end. If you go this way, I would make the flange a shrink fit on the protruding end of the spud shaft (so the torque can be transmitted by the fit) and weld the flange to the shaft at the end so that the weld is least likely to cause distortion and if a crack does start it is not likely to cause the shaft to fail
Phil Hancock
The transfer box as its remotely mounted can be solid bolted to the chassis, it was on my 6 x 6 GMC truck.
ejparrott
Thats true, there's UJ's and sliders on the rear prop, and especially if using a UJ prop to couple to it, then it doesn't need rubber mounts does it....
