Frax
Hi all I have a squeal coming from the idle pulley on my timing belt cover, it was a bugger to find but today I removed the belt and started her up and no noise. I fitted a new water pump and alternator last year so was hopping that they were still OK. Anyway with the belt removed the squeal stopped the bearing does not feel that bad but does have very slight play and sound dry. Has anyone had the replace the bearings for one of these, I am not looking forward to this job as the cover will have to be removed for a start. Any advice welcome. mmgemini
No I haven't changed one. There should be plenty of posts on how to on the forums. IIRC a motorbike shop should have the bearings in stock.
western
if it's the same idler as this one, then you can replace the bearing in your existing idler http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=3904
Frax
Sadly not that one, although I did change that pulley for a 2nd hand one as I did think it was that to start with but sadly no. Its the bearing for the pulley that the fan connects to. I have had a hunt and it does not look good so far as most people say that the whole cover has to be replaced. Colin was looking into this a few years ago. Otherwise it's a new front cover, there was a lot of covers on flee bay the other week.
Frax
Thanks for that - will have a read and see what is required. Yes it is the bearing in the front cover, I have ordered a bearing for the tensioner and will fit that to my spare as well.
