saarben
Hi, I own a 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE. The car had one previous owner and was very well taken care of, full service history and low mileage. At the end of last year, I picked-up a recurring HDC suspension error - first we replaced the air suspension sensors, then the battery, now the diagnostics are pointing to the air compressor not refilling the air quickly enough, so within a minute of the car being switched on, the yellow warning light comes on and the car remains in 'normal height'. However, it did notice that if I raise the suspension to 'off-road' mode, the error message does not come on. This is surprising to me, as if indeed the problem is an 'ageing' or 'tired' air compressor, I would expect it to show signs in 'off-road' mode, as well (maybe even quicker) How can I determine what the real issue is? The repair shop recommended changing the air compressor (apparently, the new ones which are now fitted to the Disco 4 are better specked). At a cost of close to 1 000 pounds (and having changed two items already), though, I would like to be sure this is the correct course of action. Any advice? Regards, Saar
Nigelw
This is sounding all too familiar regards air suspension, change this that and the other and owner ends up with an enormous bill and sells it a very unhappy bunny!!! Has the compressors air intake been compromised at all? It can be as simple as a partially blocked filter/intake, a slight kink in a pipe, they really need a specialist to sort them properly, I had a bundle of problems on a P38, not mine but my mate was out of cash after the garage replaced heaps of components without solving the problem!! His was a perished air bag but they replaced almost every electrical component and never checked the air bags first!!! Probably does not help but it is worth having a good look for yourself first, parts are not cheap and neither is the labor charges that go into fitting them!! bear
Hi Saar, I've got the TD5 D2 and the bags fail on these all the time. Best way to check is put in offroad mode to fully inflate and then go over the whole system with soapy water and listening for leaks in the bags and pipes where they rub on the metal parts. Also, as suggested above, in cold weather the intake filter can freeze if it gets wet. Sorry I can't be more specific as I don't know the D3s that well.
