richardm6994
I'm bolting my timing cover back onto 3.9 v8 and I just wondered if I use a smear of silicon sealant as well as the std gasket?
duncmc
No. Just stick with the gasket. Last year I did mine and used RTV as well as the gasket. I ended up with a blob blocking the oilways!
richardm6994
Thank you. It crossed my mind about blocking up holes.
jack.
Hello If you want to use a sealer on a gaskit there are only two things i would use 1; greace if you want to remove the cover and reuse the gaskit. 2; Wellseal aply a small amount to both sides of the gaskit and joint face wait untill it has dried a little and then asemble. I have used welseal in my job as a motorcycle enginer, you must make sure that the serfaces are clean! A lot of people have leaks because they done clean of old gaskits and sealer. I hope this helps
Team Idris
I assembled my first engines timing cover and it leaked water a lot, so I silicone'd it. There is a hell of a risk to the oil ways, so maybe smear sealer where the water ducts are?
