Frogland
I'm looking at purchasing a 300tdi 1996 manual disco, the owner says it needs a new transfer box because the lever is stuck in high range he also says that the odometer has ceased to function. Could there be a link between the two problems ?
BogMonster
The transfer box will be a seized linkage, very common symptom on a vehicle that has never been used in low range. The odometer could be one of a few things, but if there is no speedo reading and the odometer doesn't work either, I'd start with the sender in the transfer box. If it isn't that, then none of it is rocket science to fix, it is a pretty simple system. Use it to beat the price down, and (probably) fix it for next to nothing
Frogland
Yeah that's what i was thinking,I just don't want to accidently fix whilst i'm there.I've done that before !
Frogland
Is there a way to tell if there's a problem with the transfer box without actually using it ?
