tuskar
Hi guys Have a 300tdi disco with 125k miles and running well never over heated or burning any oil. Planning a long trip this year and wondering if I should do head gasket or leave well alone. Is the 300tdi poor in this area, at what miles do they normally give trouble ? Thanks
Ex Member
I'm not sure that there is a failure based on miles or not. If you can do it yourself, I would go ahead. It is a quick job and lets you re-lap the valves and change the stem seals.
Boydie
If its not broken dont fix it ........ leave well enough alone. If your 300TDi isnt burning oil then the valve stem seals are fine, if its running okay its a fair bet the compression is fine (rings & valves) take a spare head gasket in your kit when you go, I carry mine between two thin pieces of plywood to protect it along with spare belts, etc. If you have it, chances are you will never need it but if you dont have one ..........Oh dear !!!!!
