Keeper96
Hi guys Took the brake drum off my 1989 90 to check on a leaking brake cylinder and stupidly pulled the pedal with the drum off, how do the adjusters work so I can pull the pad in a bit to get the drum back on? If anyone knows of pictures or diagrams they would also help massively. Thanks
discomikey
you shouldnt need to move the adjuster in order to get the drum back on. with your land rover on axle stands (which i guess it is) make yourself comfortable sat down in front of the hub, and use your palms against the brake shoes and push them back in, it should require a fair bit of pressure but they will move in slowly. keep pushing them as far in as you can and then as soon as they stop, pick up the drum and put it back on. if you require adjustment after, there is a bolt head on the back side of the backing plate. this works a snail cam. IIRC with your spanner on it and pointing straight upwards (regardless of side of vehicle) turn the spanner towards the front of the vehicle (not jut clockwise for both) to adjust up, and towards the rear to let off. i would advise against adjusting the brake just to get the drum back on unless you are confident you can achieve an even adjustment on both sides. im not on my workshop laptop so havent got a diagram to hand, but shout up if you still want one. as everyone loves shiny pictures! Keeper96
Now fixed :-) they where taking a lot if force and not moving so the piston got an "enthusiastic" treatment from landrover tool no.1 Cheers for the help
discomikey
no worries. might be worth keeping an eye on the hub temps for the near future, sounds like the wheel cylinder might be siezing. do you have one of those jack russel winding up tools? sorry i mean lazer pointer temperature thingymabobbies
Keeper96
The rear cylinder is getting replaced ASAP so should hopefully not be to much of an issue. I find my friends jack Russell also gets wound up by light reflecting of watches? Jamie
