TD5 egt gauge

Just reading the post in the tech archive and there was a mention of an Ian who supplied the gauges any idea where to get hold of Ian?

Has anyone fitted one to a TD5?

Just posted this on disco forum and was recomended to try on here.

Would the old egr blank plate be okay for tc mounting or as it is really only in line with no1 cylinder not give a true reading?

Thanks

Hi Lynall

Ian is at thermoguard in Australia: ThermoMan@bigpond.com

he will post anywhere - even the Falklands.

He is most helpful.... in an email Ian sent me a while back;

---------------------------------------------------------------

...... Sorry, but the Tdi blanking plate won't fit your Td5 EGR 'hole'.

In fact, my standard thermocouple would be struggling to reach into

the gas flow from the Td5 EGR flange - it's quite deep.

But, the Td5 is probably the easiest recent engine to fit an EGT sensor

into. The collector, which feeds into the turbo, is very accessible

and it's a fairly straight-forward exercise to drill and tap into the

manifold just before the turbo flange. And it's quite easy to

temporarily disconnect the turbo from the manifold while the

drilling and tapping is done. I'll attach a photo of a Td5 installation

to illustrate the recommended thermocouple location.

Please be in touch if you'd like more details.

Ian P.
