cra42
Found a nice 109 in South Africa and would like to import to USA. Vehicle is a 1979 and qualifies as a classic. But have no idea what to do. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Ryan Houston,Texas
Guest
Get in contact with Neil Bird (Tweetybird) on here he shipped his landy from SA to South America so may be able to help you out with the logistics, as for the actual permanent import bit if you contact the DMV in Texas they will let you know all of the forms you need to fill out to register it and get new tags, a friend of mine imported his MGB from the UK to Austin when he finished working over here and said it was fairly straight forward. missingsid
The only comment I have is to reiterate the comments on here about the US Customs crushing LRs that don't match the correct build for the VIN/year. If your 109 is standard then it should not be a problem as it was UK exporters selling refurbed old import tax exempt 90/110s with a build spec of a current year build. daslandroverman
No expert in these matters, but I do believe that to export a vehicle from SA it needs to be roadworthy and have a current 'roadworthy' certificate, I forget the term the SA authorities use. There's a chap on the 900club.org board has exported a few for people, including sending cars to the USA.
