chrsel
Hi Found an RRC 94` in a garage . It has probably not been in motion for 10 years, but it still looks sound. Anyway, we connected a battery to it to see if it is possible to move the or even start it. It is possible to turn the engine manually by turning the belts, but when we turn the key the fuel pump starts up (at ingnition2) and when it is cranked nothing happens, other than that the ceilinglights dissapers. It is also not possible move the gear handle from Park, therefor not possible to move the car. Any ideas?
walace58
Could be the starter motor is jammed as if lights dim it could be drawing power. The old method with smaller cars was to rock the car or push it backwards and forwards in gear. however if you get underneath it you may be able to get a small spanner on the end of the starter armature and see if it turns. Or perhaps the solenoid to engage the starter is drawing power but jammed
FridgeFreezer
If the starter won't turn don't keep trying, you'll burn something out. Try turning the engine by hand with a spanner on the crank (from memory it might be 27mm, same as the wheel nuts). Sounds like the gear selector is seized too, you might be able to free it off easily enough on the side of the gearbox. I would check engine & gearbox oils before starting it, to avoid damage. 20W50 or 15W40 for the engine, ATF for the gearbox. Where in the world are you? From the picture it looks like the Volvo maybe has Norway plates? Full technical manuals (RAVE) are linked in the technical archive section, will show you how everything goes together.
